“Colours of the Brain” – Limited Edition Art Inspired by Anti-Racism
In 2020, during the global anti-racism movement, I felt compelled to go beyond the symbolic act of posting a black square on social media. Guided by the teachings of Martin Luther King Jr. and his vision of a world where character matters more than skin colour, I sought to create something more meaningful and lasting.
During my creative process, I discovered a quote by Nigerian poet Michael Bassey Johnson: “I don’t fancy colours of the face, I’m always attracted to colours of the brain.” This powerful message resonated deeply with me and became the foundation for this artwork.
“Colours of the Brain” is a two-colour screen print, with one of the layers featuring a shimmery metallic silver acrylic, printed on luxurious Somerset Satin paper. The combination of bold design and thoughtful symbolism serves as a reminder to look beyond appearances and value the true essence of a person.
